ANDLAB is pleased to present ex•cerpt, Selected works by Tom Dowling, Eric Johnson, Ron Linden, and Jan Taylor. The exhibition will open with an Artists’ Reception on Sunday, September 24th. The artists’ talk, moderated by Mike McGee, begins at 4 PM followed by the opening reception from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Curated by Eric Johnson, ex•cerpt reflects shared concerns and mutual respect among artists working in a reductivist manner. The work sets out to expose the essence, essentials or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts. Tom Dowling, equally adept working in 2 and 3 dimensions, presents subtly nuanced paintings limited in palette and abundant in detail. Eric Johnson’s monochromes reference both Malevich and Reinhardt with a tip of the hat to California’s Finish Fetishists. Jan Taylor’s dense black multi-panel works are activated and energized by process – iron shavings, directed by magnetism, drift, scatter and converge just beneath the surface. Ron Linden is still waiting for Godot.
